Youth Civic Engagement Fellow (High School Program) Texas Federation of the People United LLC
About the Role
Texas belongs to all of its people, and that includes its high school students. The Texas Federation of the People United LLC is proud to offer a Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship specifically designed for high school students who are ready to step up, speak out, and serve their communities in a meaningful way.
This is not a shadowing program. This is not busy work. This is a real fellowship experience built around the belief that young people do not have to wait until adulthood to make a difference. If you are a high school student with a passion for your community and a desire to lead, we want to hear from you.
What You Will Do
As a High School Youth Civic Engagement Fellow, you will be an active and contributing member of our team. Your work will include attending and participating in community events, town halls, and public meetings alongside our staff, assisting with voter registration awareness campaigns and civic education outreach at your school and in your community, helping create content for our social media platforms that speaks directly to young people, supporting the planning and coordination of youth-focused events and forums, conducting surveys and gathering community feedback from peers and neighbors, participating in weekly fellowship meetings, training sessions, and civic education workshops, and completing a capstone project at the close of the fellowship that reflects what you have learned and contributed.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for high school students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year who are curious, motivated, and genuinely invested in the world around them. You do not need a perfect GPA or a long resume. What we are looking for is a young person who pays attention to what is happening in their community, who cares about fairness and representation, and who is willing to put in the effort to grow into a leader.
You should be someone your peers trust, someone who listens before they speak, and someone who understands that serving others is a privilege worth taking seriously.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior at an accredited Texas high school. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required, though we review each application holistically. A brief personal statement describing why you want to participate in this fellowship is required at the time of application. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach, or community leader is required. Parental or guardian consent is required for all fellows under the age of 18. Bilingual candidates, particularly English and Spanish speakers, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Fellowship Details
This is a paid fellowship. Fellows will work a part-time schedule that is designed to accommodate school hours, extracurricular commitments, and family responsibilities. The fellowship runs on a semester or academic year basis, with the possibility of renewal. All scheduling and compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.
School credit may be available depending on your school district's guidelines. We are happy to work with your school counselor to explore that option.
What You Will Gain
Fellows who complete this program will walk away with verified community service hours, a professional letter of recommendation for college or scholarship applications, hands-on experience in civic engagement and community organizing, public speaking and professional communication skills, and a network of mentors, community leaders, and fellow young people across Texas who are all working toward the same goal.
Most importantly, you will leave knowing that your voice was not just heard. It was put to work.

Field Organizer Texas Federation of the People United LLC
About the Role
Community change does not happen in boardrooms. It happens at kitchen tables, on front porches, in church fellowship halls, and at neighborhood meetings where real people talk about real problems. The Field Organizer is the person who makes those conversations possible.
At the Texas Federation of the People United LLC, the Field Organizer is one of the most critical roles in our entire operation. This position sits at the center of everything we do. You are the bridge between our organization and the communities we serve, and the quality of that bridge determines the quality of our impact. If you are a natural relationship builder who thrives in fast-moving environments and believes deeply in the power of organized people, this role was made for you.
What You Will Do
As a Field Organizer, you will be on the ground, in the community, building the relationships and structures that make collective action possible. Your core responsibilities will include conducting door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and community outreach to identify, engage, and mobilize community members, recruiting and training volunteers to support organizational campaigns and initiatives, planning and executing community meetings, listening sessions, town halls, and civic engagement events, building and maintaining partnerships with local organizations, faith institutions, neighborhood associations, businesses, and elected officials, tracking all field activity, contacts, and data using our organizational database and reporting tools, developing and executing outreach strategies targeted at underrepresented and underserved populations, supporting voter registration, civic education, and get-out-the-vote efforts, and providing regular progress reports to organizational leadership on field activity, challenges, and opportunities.
Who We Are Looking For
The best Field Organizers are not necessarily the loudest people in the room. They are the most trusted. We are looking for someone who builds genuine relationships quickly, who listens as well as they communicate, and who understands that organizing is a long game that requires patience, strategy, and an unshakable commitment to the people at the center of the work.
You should be someone who is equally comfortable knocking on doors in the heat of a Texas afternoon as you are presenting a community report to organizational leadership. You take initiative, manage your time without being micromanaged, and you understand that your presence in the community is a direct reflection of this organization and its values.
Experience in grassroots organizing, political campaigns, nonprofit community work, or civic advocacy is strongly preferred. But if you have demonstrated the ability to move people toward collective action in any context, we want to hear your story.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, communications, sociology, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent lived experience and demonstrated organizing experience will be given serious consideration in lieu of a degree. A minimum of one to two years of experience in field organizing, community outreach, campaign work, or a related discipline is required. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. Proficiency in organizing and data management tools such as VAN, NGP, or similar platforms is a plus. A valid Texas driver's license and reliable personal transportation are required, as this role involves regular travel within the assigned region. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred and will be weighted heavily in the selection process.
Working Conditions
This is a field-based position. The majority of your time will be spent in the community, not behind a desk. You should expect to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis, as that is when community members are most available. Flexibility is not optional in this role. It is a core requirement. Mileage reimbursement and other applicable field expenses will be covered in accordance with organizational policy.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, paid position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. A full benefits package including health coverage, paid time off, and professional development opportunities is available. Specific compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.
What You Will Gain
Field organizing is one of the most transferable skill sets in the professional world. The person who can walk into an unfamiliar neighborhood, earn trust, build structure, and move people toward a shared goal can do almost anything. Beyond the professional development, you will gain a deep and lasting connection to the communities of Texas, a network of organizers, advocates, and civic leaders, and the knowledge that the work you did here left something behind that outlasts the campaign.

Youth Volunteer Coordinator Assistant Texas Federation of the People United LLC
About the Role
Behind every successful community initiative is a team of dedicated volunteers, and behind that team is someone who keeps everything organized, motivated, and moving in the right direction. The Youth Volunteer Coordinator Assistant is that person for our youth programs.
At the Texas Federation of the People United LLC, we understand that young volunteers bring an energy, creativity, and authenticity to community work that cannot be manufactured or replicated. This role exists to channel that energy into something purposeful and lasting. If you are highly organized, genuinely enjoy working with young people, and understand that the behind-the-scenes work is just as important as the work done in front of a crowd, this position is an excellent fit for you.
What You Will Do
As the Youth Volunteer Coordinator Assistant, you will work directly under the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, onboard, schedule, and support youth volunteers across our programs and community initiatives. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include assisting with the recruitment of youth volunteers through schools, faith organizations, youth groups, and community networks, coordinating volunteer schedules and ensuring adequate coverage for all events, meetings, and outreach activities, maintaining accurate and up-to-date volunteer records, contact lists, and hours tracking in our organizational database, serving as a consistent point of contact for youth volunteers, answering questions, providing encouragement, and addressing concerns in a timely and professional manner, assisting with volunteer orientation and training sessions to ensure every young person understands their role and feels prepared to contribute, supporting the planning and logistics of volunteer appreciation events and recognition efforts, communicating regularly with program staff to ensure volunteer placements align with organizational needs and individual volunteer strengths, and preparing weekly volunteer activity summaries and reports for organizational leadership.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is naturally organized but also naturally warm. The administrative side of this role matters enormously, but so does the human side. Youth volunteers need to feel seen, valued, and supported. The person in this role needs to deliver both structure and encouragement in equal measure.
You should be someone who follows up without being asked, who notices when a young volunteer is struggling before that volunteer says a word, and who takes genuine pride in making sure every person who shows up to serve this organization has a great experience doing it. You understand that how we treat our volunteers today determines whether they become the community leaders of tomorrow.
Prior experience working with youth in any capacity, whether through mentoring, coaching, teaching, youth ministry, or camp counseling, will serve you very well in this role.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate's or bachelor's degree in education, nonprofit management, communications, social work, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of one year of experience in volunteer coordination, youth programming, community organizing, or a related area is strongly preferred. Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills appropriate for both professional staff and young volunteers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and basic database or scheduling tools. A warm, patient, and encouraging approach to working with young people of diverse backgrounds and experience levels. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is a significant advantage and strongly encouraged. A valid driver's license is preferred, as some travel to community sites and events may be required.
Working Conditions
This position is a combination of office-based administrative work and community-facing engagement. You should expect some evening and weekend hours, particularly during peak program periods, community events, and volunteer drives. Flexibility in scheduling is important, as youth availability often falls outside of traditional nine-to-five hours. A positive, solutions-oriented attitude in high-energy and fast-changing environments is essential.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a paid position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and will be discussed in detail during the interview process. Benefits eligibility will depend on the classification and term of the position. Professional development opportunities and mentorship from senior organizational staff are included as part of this role.
What You Will Gain
This role is an outstanding entry point into the fields of nonprofit management, youth development, and civic engagement. You will develop practical skills in volunteer management, program coordination, interpersonal communication, and organizational operations. You will also build a meaningful network of community leaders, educators, youth advocates, and civic professionals across Harris County.
More than the professional growth, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that the young volunteers you supported and developed went on to do something greater because of the foundation this organization, and your work within it, helped them build.

Hiring Fair vs. Job Fair: Understanding the Difference
A job fair is a networking event where job seekers meet with multiple employers to learn about various job opportunities, submit resumes, and explore career paths. It's primarily an informational and engagement-driven event.
A hiring fair, on the other hand, is more direct and action-oriented. Employers come prepared to conduct interviews on the spot and potentially offer jobs the same day. The goal is immediate recruitment and filling open positions quickly.

The Purpose of a Resume: Selling Your Value to a Company
A resume is more than just a list of jobs—it's your personal marketing tool. It tells your professional story, highlights your skills, and showcases your achievements. The purpose of a resume is to present your experience in a way that speaks directly to what a company needs.
A strong resume sells your value by:
Think of it as your first handshake on paper—it should leave a lasting impression and open the door to opportunity.
What Is an Elevator Pitch?
An elevator pitch is a short, powerful summary of who you are, what you do, and what value you bring—all delivered in the time it takes to ride an elevator (about 30 to 60 seconds).
It's designed to grab attention, spark interest, and leave the listener wanting to know more. Whether you're at a job fair, networking event, or chance meeting with a potential employer, your elevator pitch should:

"Hi, I’m Jordan Williams. I have three years of hands-on construction and warehouse experience, and I specialize in teamwork and safety. I’m currently looking for steady, full-time work with a company that values hard workers and promotes growth. I’d love to learn more about any opportunities you may have."
